The True Story: Ambrose Small and his wife, Theresa, owned a chain of theatres in southern Ontario. In December of 1919, the couple sold their business and banked a downpayment of $1-million. The next day Ambrose disappeared and was never seen again. With his theatre connections around the world, Small’s disappearance became a global cause célèbre. The police kept the file open until 1960.
The Show: Geordie Telfer is the author of Hogtown Empire – a non-fiction account of the case – and also performs a suite of light-hearted original songs inspired by the mystery. This 45-60 minute show consists of readings and songs all performed live by the author, accompanying himself on acoustic guitar. A discussion and Q&A follows, plus personalized book signing & sales. This has proven to be a popular show for PROBUS groups, retirement communities, and other social groups who regularly book speakers or entertainers.
Depending on audience size, hearing acuity, and venue, some amplification may be required. For smaller groups (15-20) in close formation, songs and readings can be performed with no amplification.
